Maxmoduler

Tasked with improving efficiency in modular building manufacturing without rebuilding the factory, Maxmoduler partnered with Triweco to automate exterior cladding fastening using Triweco’s TB12 tool bridge.

Smart automation for modular construction production

Company: Nordic manufacturer of modular buildings and site cabins for construction, offices and public environments.

Challenge: Increase efficiency in modular building production without rebuilding the existing factory or production line.

Solution: Installation of Triweco's TB12 tool bridge, a compact automation bridge for prefabricated and modular construction, with a modern HMI designed to integrate with existing production tables and workflows.

Result: Improved production in modular manufacturing with the same workforce and an appropriately scaled automation solution.

We wanted a scaled-down multifunction bridge that was optimized for precise fastening. It wasn't available on the market, but Triweco could develop and deliver it for us. The competence and experience of the Triweco team is clear. Collaboration throughout this project has been smooth, and they quickly solved any challenges that came up along the way.

The Company

Maxmoduler is a Swedish manufacturer of modular buildings and on-site cabins for offices, housing, schools and construction projects across the Nordic market. The company designs, manufactures and delivers customised modules and supports customers with planning, permits, logistics and full site establishment services.

The Challenge

Maxmoduler wanted to increase efficiency in their modular building production, specifically in the step where exterior cladding is nailed. The goal was to automate the process while keeping the factory layout and production flow intact - the improvement needed to fit into the current setup. After evaluating other solutions on the market, they had not found an automation option that matched their needs for flexibility, cost efficiency, and minimal disruption.

The Solution

Triweco delivered the TB12, a compact and multifunctional automation bridge that is more cost-effective than other, more complex solutions. The bridge can be installed directly above existing production tables and is equipped with tools for nailing, stapling or screwing, making it ideal for automating specific production steps without rebuilding the entire line.

For this customer, the TB12 provided the right level of automation. The production did not require the full functionality of a larger TB24 bridge, making the TB12 an efficient investment and an easier-to-manage solution while still delivering the same high-quality results.

The TB12 is equipped with Triweco's newly developed HMI, designed with a modern, user-friendly interface similar to what operators experience in smartphones and vehicles. The intuitive design makes the machine easier to learn, reduces the need for specialist training and simplifies daily operation.

The Results

The TB12 has enabled the company to improve production using the same workforce, improving overall efficiency in module manufacturing.

A key benefit is the enhanced working environment for operators. Previously, staff were required to reach across panels during certain tasks - an ergonomically challenging motion that often led to strain in the shoulders and back. With the new setup, these risk-prone moments have been eliminated. Operators no longer need to stretch over panels, resulting in a safer, more ergonomic workflow that reduces physical strain and supports long-term health.

The solution has also contributed to more consistent product quality. Nail rows and nail depth in exterior panels are now perfectly uniform, ensuring a higher and more reliable finish in the final product. In addition, operational reliability has improved. There have been no production stoppages since implementation, and the use of large nail magazines significantly reduces the time operators spend on refilling compared to manual nailing.

Together, these improvements deliver measurable gains in production, while creating a safer and more sustainable working environment.

When we work with a company, our goal is always to find the right level of automation for their specific manufacturing operation - the best balance between performance, usability and investment. It's about delivering the functionality they truly need, without adding unnecessary complexity or cost.
